Frank Caprio

Mr. Caprio has 25 years of experience at the intersection of investment banking, government,and law. He served in elective office for 20 years on the state level in Rhode Island, including his service as Treasurer of Rhode Island. While State Treasurer he led investment decisions as Chairman of the State’s $8 billion pension fund from 2007 – 2010. During that time the RI pension fund was a national performance leader and was recognized by national observers as one of the few State Pension funds that exited sub-prime mortgage investments ahead of the Great Recession. For a decade he served a Managing Director of Chatham Capital a private credit fund with $1 Billion under management and is currently the Founder and Managing Partner of National Private Lender, LLC and NPL Capital a debt and equity investment firm focusing across the asset spectrum in the lower middle market. Mr. Caprio is also an adjunct professor of Finance at Providence College School of Business.

He earned a degree in economics from Harvard University, where he served as captain of the Crimson’s baseball team and was an All-Ivy League defensive back on the 1987 Ivy championship football team. Frank earned a juris doctorate from Suffolk University Law School and is a member of the Rhode Island and Massachusetts state and federal bar associations.
Frank began his political career while a senior at Harvard. He was elected a delegate to the 1988 Democratic National Convention. In 1990, he was elected to the RI House of Representatives where he served two terms. Frank went on to serve 12 years in the RI Senate before being elected General Treasurer in 2006 and served until 2010.
